Money-Saving Hacks: My Tried-and-Tested Tips

Saving money can feel like an impossible task sometimes, but over the years I’ve found some strategies that really work! Whether it’s stashing away pennies or taking on savings challenges, here’s what’s worked for me so far.

Savings Accounts

Every month, I set aside £150–£200 into a holiday savings account and another £30–£50 into a separate emergency fund. Having two accounts really helps me keep things organised. One is for general savings – stuff like unexpected car repairs or replacing broken gadgets – and the other is for something much more fun: holidays! Having a dedicated holiday fund makes it feel so much more achievable.

Loyalty Cards

I’m a sucker for loyalty cards, and honestly, they’ve saved me loads over the years. From Morrison’s cards that give you £5 vouchers for every 5,000 points to Superdrug and Boots cards that let you save up for big purchases, I’m all over it. Right now, I’ve got about £8 stacked up on my Superdrug card, and I’m totally saving that for summer holiday bits.

Piggy Banks

Yes, I still use piggy banks. I’ve got one that collects 1p and 2p coins – which I bag up and deposit once it’s full – and another for £2 coins that’s dedicated to my Florida holiday fund. The last time I opened it, I had £120 saved up, mostly in coins! Those little amounts seriously add up over time.

The 52-Week Savings Challenge

This one’s a classic! The idea is to save the amount of money that matches the week of the year. Week 1 = £1, Week 2 = £2, and so on. I like to do mine backwards, starting with the bigger amounts at the beginning of the year. Right now, I’ve got £626 saved up – not bad, right?

No-Spend Rules

No-spend challenges are another favourite of mine. I tried doing a whole month but kept failing, so I came up with my own rules. I’ve cancelled subscriptions I don’t enjoy anymore, trimmed down unnecessary direct debits, and even banned myself from buying beauty products unless they’re essentials. Cutting out things like magazines, meal deals, and random lottery tickets has seriously made a difference.

How do you save up money and stick to it? And did you find any of the ideas above helpful? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)
