Money-Saving Hacks: My Tried-and-Tested Tips

Saving money can feel like an impossible task sometimes, but over the years I’ve found some strategies that really work! Whether it’s stashing away pennies or taking on savings challenges, here’s what’s worked for me so far.

Savings Accounts

Every month, I set aside £150–£200 into a holiday savings account and another £30–£50 into a separate emergency fund. Having two accounts really helps me keep things organised. One is for general savings – stuff like unexpected car repairs or replacing broken gadgets – and the other is for something much more fun: holidays! Having a dedicated holiday fund makes it feel so much more achievable.

Loyalty Cards

I’m a sucker for loyalty cards, and honestly, they’ve saved me loads over the years. From Morrison’s cards that give you £5 vouchers for every 5,000 points to Superdrug and Boots cards that let you save up for big purchases, I’m all over it. Right now, I’ve got about £8 stacked up on my Superdrug card, and I’m totally saving that for summer holiday bits.

Piggy Banks

Yes, I still use piggy banks. I’ve got one that collects 1p and 2p coins – which I bag up and deposit once it’s full – and another for £2 coins that’s dedicated to my Florida holiday fund. The last time I opened it, I had £120 saved up, mostly in coins! Those little amounts seriously add up over time.

The 52-Week Savings Challenge

This one’s a classic! The idea is to save the amount of money that matches the week of the year. Week 1 = £1, Week 2 = £2, and so on. I like to do mine backwards, starting with the bigger amounts at the beginning of the year. Right now, I’ve got £626 saved up – not bad, right?

No-Spend Rules

No-spend challenges are another favourite of mine. I tried doing a whole month but kept failing, so I came up with my own rules. I’ve cancelled subscriptions I don’t enjoy anymore, trimmed down unnecessary direct debits, and even banned myself from buying beauty products unless they’re essentials. Cutting out things like magazines, meal deals, and random lottery tickets has seriously made a difference.

How do you save up money and stick to it? And did you find any of the ideas above helpful? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

Micellar Water Review (2025 Edition): Still My Go-To Cleanser!

Way back in 2014, the beauty world went absolutely nuts for this Micellar Water, and honestly? The hype was REAL.

It was like gold dust at the time - sold out everywhere or priced at a fiver if you were lucky. Fast forward to 2025, and you can now grab it pretty much anywhere for around £6.

And yep, I still swear by it.

This stuff is a game-changer for lazy skincare nights (which, let’s be honest, is most nights). I used to be the person who regularly crashed out with a full face of makeup or half-heartedly wiped it off with a makeup wipe if I could be bothered. But this magical water? It’s made me actually take my makeup off before bed!

Most nights, I only need one cotton pad and a few drops of Micellar Water to melt away all the makeup and grime. If I’ve gone all-out for a night out, maybe I’ll use two pads. But that’s it. I don’t wear a ton of makeup on a daily basis, but it tackles even the heavier stuff like a pro.

No fragrance, no fuss, no irritation - just clean skin that feels refreshed and ready for bed. And since I’ve been using it, I’ve definitely noticed my skin looking a lot less blotchy in the mornings. It’s so much better than waking up with that grimy, smudged mascara look.

It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for me? It’s a skincare staple I’ll be repurchasing again and again.

Have you tried Micellar Water? Love it or hate it? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)
