10 Things I Love About Autumn

22nd of September hailed the arrival of Autumn, and honestly, it was freaking March like 3 seconds ago, and we were in a heatwave. Where has 2020 gone? The weather has taken a dramatic drop, going from 27°c on a Monday, to a blustery and rainy 11°c on Wednesday morning. My skin has not adjusted well to this at all!

Autumn has been my favourite season for as long as I can remember, so here are 10 things/reasons why I love this season so much!
  1. Colder weather
    • Jumpers, cardigans, snuggly pyjamas - they are all back in season!
  2. Autumnal colours
    • Reds, oranges, golds. Everywhere looks like it's about to feature a Hallmark movie for the season
  3. Heating is back on!
    • The house feels cosy, and you just don't want to go out
  4. Christmas is around the corner
    • Yes, the dreaded C word! I'm a good third of the way through my shopping as of when I am typing this up!
  5. Bonfire Night
    • Warm fires, and hopefully some socially distancing fireworks displays might be on
  6. TV Shows
    • Although some shows are delayed until winter 2021, a few TV shows are returning this Autumn, and I am excited for some new things to watch!
  7. Fluffy socks
    • Need I say more?
  8. New seasonal products at work
    • With each changing season, we have new products on my deli counter, and last year we had a cheese with dark chocolate in it (it was called Black Cat, and was disgusting, but sold surprisingly well!) I'm excited to see what we get this year
  9. Friends and family meet ups
    • Obviously observing the current virus guidelines in the UK, I'm hoping to be able to see some of my family who I haven't seen since February, and some friends who I haven't seen for quite a while either.
  10. Staying Home
    • I am a home girl. I like to stay home, do nothing and be left in peace. Nothing makes me happier! My quarantine life was pretty much my usual lifestyle anyway, so that didn't affect me too much! This colder weather means more time snuggled up in my bed with some seasonal movies on!

What are your favourite things to do in the autumn season? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

September 2020 Wishlist

I'm technically meant to be on a spending ban this month, but that doesn't mean I can't make a little wishlist for myself when I can finally buy something again! I also haven't done one of these posts for about 2 years now, so I'm due to do one! I've also binged The Home Edit on Netflix, so some of this may be inspired by that...

What's on your wishlist for this month, and have you picked up any bargains recently? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

September Playlist & Updates!

Hey guys!

Long time no see, right? I'm trying to get back into blogging, and though this might take a while, I'm going to try at least one to two posts a week for now. Hope you're all doing okay in these crazy times we're living in this 2020 year! What a year it has been.

I had three months off work as I was NHS shielding, and though it was nice to be away from the craziness for that long, the novelty of that wore off after the first month, and then it was just trying to keep into a routine where possible, so I wouldn't go insane! We had a lot of BBQ's, played poker a lot, watched a hell of a lot of TV and movies, ate far too much food, and watched copious amounts of Disney videos and vlogs to keep us happy - as we were due to go back in 2021, but we've now changed that to 2022, as we're still concerned about the virus for next year.

I've been back at work for three months now, and it kinda looks like we are nearing a second wave and second lockdown, but will see what happens. I'm in a supermarket, and it has been terrifying, absurd, and overwhelming. Many tears have been spilled since I went back on June 22nd. Just getting up each day and doing my best! Thankfully, a large handful of the public I've dealt with have been incredibly understanding and kind to myself and my colleagues, but there's a small amount that have been literal Karens

Things I have learnt during lockdown:
  • How to dutch-braid my hair
  • How to make homemade coleslaw
  • Purging my bedroom is great
  • I put on 11lbs in lockdown - I've finally lost them all now!
  • Social media friends are a godsend
  • Instagram is my fave social media platform right now
  • Planning in my EC products kept me sane for 3 months
  • I really, really, love my family!
  • I missed my friends an awful lot
  • I missed my work friends a lot
  • Going to the pharmacy twice to get my medication was scary as heck
  • Hamilton is now my favourite musical
  • Anxiety purchasing is a real thing

I woke up this morning - a rare Sunday off work kinda day - and decided let's do an update blog post, and share some music I'm loving at the moment. Be warned, most of it is Hamilton music! So here it is, my latest playlist for the year!

How are you all holding up around the country/world with everything going on? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

Fashion Tips To Help You Look Great in Sunglasses*

Sunglasses can be a fantastic addition to any outfit if worn correctly. Just slapping on a pair of sunnies often won’t work. It could make your outfit look a little gaudy or it could just make you look silly in some cases. There are many different types of sunglasses to pick from and it’s always a good idea to do a bit of research on the different types before you purchase a pair. Depending on the shape of your face and the type of sunglasses you buy, you could get some drastically different appearances.

So where should you start? What kind of sunglasses should you buy? And are there any tips to help you look great in them regardless of your outfit? We’ll be discussing all that and more in this comprehensive guide on how to look great in sunglasses.

Picking a suitable pair of sunglasses

It’s important to pick a pair of sunglasses that really resonates with you. When shopping for a pair of sunnies, you need to take a couple of important factors in mind. This includes the size of the frames, the shape, if they can protect you from the sun and also the colour. These are the four basic components that make up a pair of sunglasses. They’re going to be the deciding factors that determine if you pick up a new pair of sunnies or not.

You should keep in mind that it’s always good to try them on before you buy them. While you can get some wonderful sunglasses on the internet, it’s never a bad idea to try them out in a store to see how they frame your face. You want to pick a pair that is comfortable. It should fit your face and it shouldn’t feel too tight around your ears or your nose. Remember that sunglasses are typically worn for a long time if you’re going out with them so they need to be comfortable in the long run.

If you’re set on buying a pair online, make sure you measure your face and look at the dimensions of the sunglasses you plan to buy. This will help reduce the chances of you buying something that doesn’t fit your face. Luckily, many online stores will let you return them if they don’t fit. Buying online also gives you a huge choice of sunglasses to pick from. It can often feel limiting if you only buy from a local retailer.

Picking frames based on your face shape

One huge tip that we can offer is to pick frames based on your face shape. The same rules for buying glasses can also apply to sunglasses. Finding a flattering pair of shades will involve examining your face to determine which of the facial groups you belong to. There are typically four different shapes; round, oval, square and heart. Round faces tend to fit the form of a circle. Oval faces are narrow and long. Square faces have strong angles. And heart faces tend to have a wider forehead that tapers at the chin.

The goal here is to either balance your features by picking frames that oppose your face shape, or highlight it by picking frames that are similar to your face shape. The former option will help to create a more balanced look, but the latter option can be great if you love your facial features and want to highlight the overall shape of your face.

For instance, if you have a round face then you’ll want to go with sunglasses that have sharper angles and straight edges. This will help to balance the overall look and feel of your face. Alternatively, you could go with round sunglasses if you want to bring more attention to your rounded features. This is something that’s down to personal choice, but the first step is always to determine your face shape before you go further.

One trusty pair or buy several different types?

One of the first questions you might have in mind is; do I buy one luxurious pair of sunglasses or go for several cheaper purchases? The answer isn’t exactly simple and it’s important to choose based on your budget and personal preferences. If you’re going out every single day and want a new pair to fit different outfits then we highly suggest going for cheaper pairs so you have more variety. However, there are some cases where a single pair of luxurious sunglasses can be all you need to create wonderful and exciting outfits.

When buying accessories, it’s important to understand the concept of a statement piece. This is a word used to describe an item you’re wearing that is designed to stand out and draw attention. Think of big beautiful dresses or a jacket with lots of design elements and logos. The goal here is to pick something that stands out among the rest of your accessories and clothing items. When it comes to sunglasses, you can turn a good pair into a statement piece that looks unique, has a quirky frame design or is coloured in a unique way.

In short, it really depends on how you want to wear your sunglasses. If you want to pair them with lots of different outfits then buying multiple pairs can give you more variety. However, if you’re more interested in turning your sunglasses into a statement piece to show off, then you’ll have better luck choosing an expensive designer pair that will stay with you for years to come.

Wearing sunglasses and styling them with your outfit

Finally, let’s finish by talking about how to balance sunglasses with your outfits and other accessories.

The key concept here is to stay simple. You don’t want to overcomplicate your accessory choices because it can end up looking strange or gaudy. If you think too hard about your accessory choices, you might end up with a mismatch of jewellery and items that have no harmony. You want to keep it simple and keep your face as clear as possible. Sunglasses are already quite large and will take up a lot of space on your face. If you then pair it with large dangling earrings, multiple piercings and a fancy hat, it can create a strange and unbalanced look that doesn’t make any sense.

So the idea here is to keep it simple. Put your pair of sunglasses on and look into a mirror. What part of your face can you further accessorize? Do you even need more accessories or do you look fine as it is? Some simple suggestions include adding some small earrings that complement the look of your sunglasses, or even a large hat to give off a summer vibe. Your sunglasses can also pair well with other accessories and jewellery you have. For example, if you’re going for a statement look with your sunglasses, we suggest pairing it with simple clothes that don’t have heavy patterns and designs. This will help ensure that your sunglasses have a chance to stand out instead of being overwhelmed by everything else. If in doubt, we suggest avoiding accessories with too much colour. Keep it simple with neutral colours and you’ll have a much easier time putting together a coherent outfit.

Wearing sunglasses isn’t complicated, but it can take a bit of consideration to choose the perfect pair that goes well with all of your outfits. As long as you put a little bit of consideration into your choices and outfits, you’ll feel a lot more confident and comfortable with your sunglasses on.
