October 2018 Faves

Another month gone, and we're getting even closer to winter and the big C word, that all us retail workers dread each year! Had one of those limbo months, where I was all over the place, but now it's ending, I'm hoping November is a lot better. Comic Con has been and gone again, so now just focusing on saving up for another trip to Florida!

Anyway, hope you're all well, and here are my monthly faves!

Song
I am still on my country music high, so this is no surprise. A relatively new girl group, Runaway June have become a slight obsession of mine. I love their whole EP, and cannot wait until they release more, but until then, you'll find me listening to this on repeat for the next few months!

TV Show
It is the season of the returning shows, and it's been grand so far! We've already had the amazing crossover with the One Chicago shows, new Big Bang theory, and How to get Away With Murder is also back, among others. But Station 19's premier episode had me hooked from the minute it started. It carried on from the massive cliffhanger at the end of season one, and we finally got to see the fates of the team.

Film
I had a Saturday off this month, so decided to binge all three of the Expendables movies. I love all of them, as I am big lover off action films - but the first one is just the best by a long shot. The whole plot is great, and the cast is one of the best for the job!

Picture
Fave picture of the month is this one of me getting to meet Harley Quinn artist, Amanda Conner, at MCM Comic Con this past weekend. I also met Jimmy Palmiotti on the Friday, and he also signed my comic! She was super lovely, and really chatty! I now have a very special #25 issue with their autographs, which I'll treasure for my life!

How has your October been, and what are your faves from the categories above? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

How to Bake A New Beginning | Book Review

How to Bake A New Beginning

Author: Lucy Knott

Find Lucy: @LucyCKnott  | @TheBlossomTwins

Released: October 4th 2018

Format: Paperback

Purchase From: Amazon £12.99 | Book Depository £12.99 | Waterstones £12.99

Plot: 'When their beloved grandfather passes away these sisters are forced to take another look at their lives. The three sisters are about to embark on a journey of self-discovery that could just lead them down the road to romance (with a little help from the kicthen)!' (taken from the back cover!)

My Rating: ★★★★★

Review

I love how the characters will slip in an Italian word here and there, as it makes them seem all that more real! I know Lucy has Italian heritage, so this was a lovely personal addition. I was able to picture a lot of the places that were mentioned, even though I've no idea what they actually look like! I have a lovely image of the Grandpa's house in my head, and it's all cosy! I love that each of the locations are described perfectly, and I can picture it all so easy.

Each chapter starts with a recipe from the character's family, and has some meaning to for that chapter. There are also parts that you will notice are in italics, so you can easily see what is a flashback to some backstory. I loved these little bits, as we got to understand the three sisters a lot better when they were experiencing something in their present day. The ending was perfect, and really felt like the story had come to a fulfilling end - and one I was happy to read as it came to a close.

I really didn't want to put this down. I laughed, I related, I cried my eyes out. There are some bits that were so relatable to what happened when my Nan passed away, that it was really therapeutic in a way which I didn't realize I needed as much as I did. It's such a wonderful book, and I managed to read over half of it in one sitting. I need to petition to get this to become a movie, and it would be stunning! I'll even be a background extra!

I've been looking forward to this book since Lucy announced it  back in May. I ordered it not long after, and have been so excited to get my copy!

And finally, to my lovely blogger friend Lucy - congratulations! So glad I found you and Kelly via The Blossoms Twins just over a year ago and have been able to get to know you both a little bit, and get to see you release your debut novel! I can't wait to see what else you release over the years.

If you've already read this, what did you think? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

The Losers | Movie Review

I have mentioned this film repeatedly over the last 7 years of my life. It's my fave film of all time, and is one I can watch over and over, without getting bored of it. I mentioned it enough times on twitter that Columbus Short, who plays Pooch in this movie - also known as Harrison from Scandal - now follows me on there. This is the perfect action movie with a star studded cast, so if you're into a good action sequence, then give this a shot.

The Losers

Released: April 23rd 2010

Cast: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short, Óscar Jaenada, and Jason Patric

Director: Sylvain White

Plot: Loosely based on the Vertigo comics of the same name, The Losers follows an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. They find themselves the target of a deadly betrayal, a powerful enemy known only as Max. Presumed dead, the Losers makes plans to even the score, when they're joined by a mysterious woman, named Aisha. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war. (Partially taken from IMDB)

My rating: ★★★★★

Review

There are plenty of small laughs, serious moments, and the cliché action sequences - such as: a bomb about to go off, but the good guys stop it with seconds spare, guns and explosions, the mystery woman, etc. You'll also find plenty of quote-worthy moments during the film, that you'll find yourself saying over time. I can't help but quote some of Clay and Pooch's lines when I'm doing odd jobs!
The cast is a fantastic combination, and you'll recognize most of them from the Marvel movies, and even the Walking Dead.

We start off with getting to know this team, seeing them give up their lives to stay safe, and living in Bolivia until the time comes when Aisha comes to take them home to get their revenge. There's plenty of Bond villain-esque moments with Max and his world destroying technology, all under guard of his right-hand man, Wade.  They have some revelations, shootouts and have fun blowing things up on their way to take back their lives.

Honestly, the trailer doesn't do this film any justice. I saw this when it was on DVD almost a year after it's release. This is the film that made me get into Chris Evans and his movies. This is what started it all!

It's very underrated, but it's a classic in my opinion. The film characters, resemble the comic characters almost exactly. Down to mannerisms, hair cuts, accessories and even faces! Jensen  and Pooch are my faves in the comics, so I was super happy to see them so alike in the movie.

Trailer

If you haven't seen this film yet, I beg you to give it a try as it's one that I am determined to get as many people to see as possible. If you have already seen it, what did you think of the movie overall? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

October Wishlist

I'm off to Comic Con at the end of the month, so I can't be going to crazy with purchases right now, but that doesn't mean I can't get a list together of things I'm after. I've been toying with the idea of a new camera now, and though I'm not officially settled on which one, I've added the below one to the list, so at least I have an idea in mind! Hope you're all having a great month so far.

What's on your wishlist for October, and have you picked up any bargains recently? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

Products I'm Currently Loving

I love nothing more than a good purchase! I'm a bit of a spendaholic, and though I try to rein it in a bit, I always fail and just think 'one more thing won't hurt the bank account' - I'm always wrong FYI!

However, now and then I'll find something to buy, or am gifted, which I end up loving for a variety of reasons. Here are a few products that have been a blessing this year! Each item title is linked to the product, so you can go view it for yourselves.

Computer Glass
I've worn these for use on my laptop, longtime use of my phone, and even at work. I have the ones with no magnify, as I don't need glasses for my sight. These help eliminate the blue light from devices, which are a nasty trigger for my Hemiplegic Migraines, by using a yellow tinted lens. I've also been wearing them at work, as we have no windows at the deli, so it's all artificial light which really hurts my eyes/head too. These have been a blessing, so I wear them frequently!

Identify Theft Roller Stamp
This stamp is something I kept seeing on Facebook ads, and eventually caved in and looked it up on Amazon. It's been a super handy item to own with all the deliveries I keep getting! You simple roll the stamp over the name/address/barcode on any post you get and you cannot see through it. It hides it all perfectly, and you can't see it on the reverse side either, as it penetrates through, making it totally safe. It's saved me stockpiling things up for the shredder so often, and can easily just be stamped and thrown into the bin.

Lenovo Tablet 10
I bought this back in May, and it was a fab decision! I can use this all around, and not have to lug my laptop up and down the stairs. I use this for games, emails, blogging, and to browse when I'm in bed. I bought mine from Argos, but it's currently cheaper over on Amazon. This is only a 16GB tablet, and I wish I had a bigger memory for some apps, but this has linked up to my One Drive nicely, so I can flick between documents on this and my laptop with ease.

USB Fan
Purchased this back during that immense heatwave we had here in the UK. Heat, oh how I miss thee... This was a spur of the moment purchase one night, after having enough of moving my desk fan from there and to my bed each night so I could keep cool. This is rechargeable USB fan, so I could plug it in over night on my nightstand, and it would go all night for me. It was pretty cheap, and arrived quickly for me to use the following evening.

Re-Usable Water Bottle
This link is the closest one I can find to the one my sister bought me! She gifted me this for my birthday, and I've used it everyday since. It's 900ml, and I usually refill it 4-6 times a day. I don't drink any sodas unless I'm out for dinner, so I'm all for water these days. I probably shouldn't drink so much water, but it's hydrating! It has a handy non-spill flip cap, which only works when it's closed - not open as I found out!

I use all of these each day, albeit the fan right now as it's getting colder - but it still comes in handy after a hot shower and I want to cool down quicker! What things have you been given or purchased this year, that have been a great idea for you? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

My Top 10 Fave Movies

I've spent a lot of my free time this month re-watching a bunch of my fave movies. I love movies, as I can just lose myself in the stories and characters.

Other than the first two, the rest of these films are in no particular order. These are all the film I will watch repeatedly through the year, and the top two DVD's are getting a bit worn now!

The Losers
My all time fave movie, with an amazing vast. This came out in 2010 and I have yet to find a film that I enjoy as much. It stars Chris Evans, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, and others. It's loosely based off the comics of the same name - full of action and with a few funny moments along the way.

Oceans 11
Another long time fave, this is one I can always just put on in the background when I'm doing other things. I know the while plot and most of the lines! I have always really enjoyed heist movies, so this is perfect. Not massively keen on the following 2, but they could never beat 11!

Avengers: Age Of Ultron
Something about this one just makes me love it. It's got some really funny moments as well as more serious parts. I an huge Marvel fan, so seeing them all together again, plus meeting some new character is amazing. This really sets us up for Civil war too.

Iron Man
The one that started it all. This is what got me into comic movies and RDJ is the PERFECT casting choice for this role. I've seen this more than all the other MCU films!

Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban
The undisputed best movie of the seven. Literally no Voldemort, just a great story and the introduction to Sirius and Lupin! This is also my fave book, so I'm happy that this film is the closest to the books, compared to the rest of them.

Love Actually
I used to hate movies like this, but this came to me at a time when I was feeling down on myself, and it's become a staple of my faves ever since. I watch it all through Christmas, and a handful during the year - it just makes no happy!

Mulan
Childhood fave! I wanted to be Mulan after I saw this for the first time. I wanted a sword, a dragon sidekick, and to save China. She never needed a man and I credit her to my way of thinking! I love watching this when I'm having a lazy day, as I quote it as it goes.

The Expendables
The epitome of action movies, this is a fave. Some of the bear action stars of our time, lots of guns and explosions - plus a good plot. I have all three of the movies, and there are rumors of a fourth one being made, so I really hope this is true!

Now You See Me
Can't beat a magic movie! Magicians fascinate me, so to have a film about some performing a heist, is perfect for me! I loved how it all fit together and the twist at the end! I want expecting it the first time, and even now I can't quite figure it all out!

Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
If I ever need a cry, then this is what I'll put on. I always end up blubbering at the end of it. I bought the books not long ago, so Hopi g to read them soon and see how close the movie was to them. I love the cast and story of this, and makes me wish I had some of their adventures.

What are you fave films, and do we have any of the same in common? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)
