My Favourite Universal Resort Attractions

The Universal Resort theme parks - Universal Studios and, Islands of Adventure - are probably my fave two theme parks in Orlando. I love Disney, but the Universal rides are just tailored to what I prefer, so they are perfect - even if Disney has stepped up their ride game recently (hello Tron!)

The rides here are incredible, and though I couldn't get my camera on any of the rides, due to the metal detectors and no-bags policy on a lot of the rides, I just got to be in the moment and enjoy the rides. Here's a list of the ones I really enjoyed, and in no particular order.

Harry Potter & The Forbidden Journey

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

The Incredible Hulk Coaster

Harry Potter & the Escape From Gringotts

Jurassic Park River Adventure

Dudley Do-Right's Rip Saw Falls

The Bourne Stuntacular

All of these the rides that we went on, were AMAZING - but these are my top rides from both parks.

On Rip Saw Falls, we got so wet on it, that I was literally dripping water the entire way back to the car! Escape from Gringotts was so awesome, but the que time had jumped up to over an hour during the time we has queued for 10 minutes, went on the ride, and then came off of it.

I also cannot stop raving about the Bourne Stunt show - I've never seen anything like it, and it was so good, we saw it twice!

What are your fave attarctions at Universal and Islands of Adventure? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

Learning to Drive: My Journey

Do you remember your first driving lesson and your driving test(s)?

I do. Cue story time music...

September 6th, 2011, was my first lesson! I remember feeling so nervous when Ray, my instructor, pulled up outside my house. My sister reassured me, telling me I’d be fine and not to worry. Once I got in the car (passenger seat to start!), Ray drove us to a quiet area nearby. It wasn’t too busy and had all the basics I’d need: a hill for hill starts, a few turnings to get used to steering, and a crossroad to help me get accustomed to traffic. He went through the car basics, explaining what each pedal and gear did and reminding me to use my mirrors ‘all the time’. I think that was the bit I forgot the most during my lessons!

I managed to get the hang of speed control quite quickly, but the pedals and gears were a real struggle for weeks! During that first lesson, I was able to pull away, stop, and turn left and right all within two hours. I was nervous the entire time, but I was so happy I was finally doing it. I stalled about 20 times that first lesson, but I was honestly expecting way more!

After that, I had a lesson every Friday for an hour with Ray. At £20 per lesson, I was determined to do well and learn fast. After about four lessons in that quiet area, Ray let me loose on the main roads near my house. I was terrified! Red lights were a nightmare to get used to, and I always felt like I was driving so slowly.

By December, when the snow hit, I was doing alright. I was only stalling a few times each lesson but now had the added panic of driving on ice and snow. Eventually, my lessons had to be put on hold until mid-January because it was too unsafe to continue. But I was happy with the progress I’d made.

I was also working on my theory test at the time and, thankfully, managed to pass it on my first try on April 25th, 2012 - by the exact number of points needed to pass. Talk about lucky! With that out of the way, I was finally able to apply for my practical test.

My first test was at the start of June 2012. I tried to squeeze it in before a holiday, but the route was in an unfamiliar area of town, down a narrow country lane. Ray sat in the backseat while the female examiner was in the passenger seat. I ended up failing for “going too fast” in a 30mph zone - even though I was only doing 20mph because I was absolutely terrified of how narrow the road was. I was so frustrated and cried as soon as I got home.

My second test was in August, and I knew I’d failed within the first 10 minutes. I was having a bad day, and my nerves were all over the place. I hit a curb and accidentally cut up a car on a confusing one-way system. I actually saw the examiner mark me as failed while I was still driving. Since I knew I’d already failed, I pretty much ignored his directions and drove back to the test centre however I liked. Not my finest moment!

Finally, on September 4th, 2012, I passed my test on my third attempt! Coincidentally, it was the same route as my first test. The male examiner I had at that time was so kind and really helped calm my nerves. Even when he had to assist me on the country lane because a lorry was stuck, he still passed me with only one minor. It felt like a miracle!

I got my car, which I lovingly named Betty, on February 18th, 2013. My dad was incredibly generous and bought the car for me because he was tired of having to cart me to and from where I worked at midnight!

In total, I spent about £1,200 on lessons, theory tests, and practical tests. My parents chipped in around £200 when I was short on cash one week, but the rest came out of my own pocket. It took me just under a year to learn and pass my test.

If you’re looking to start lessons or want advice on the tests, check out BookLearnPass. They’ve got loads of helpful tips and a brilliant mock theory test that’s super useful!

Have you passed your test or are you currently taking lessons? I’d love to hear your stories and how you’re getting on, so let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

The A-Z Of Me!

I've seen this idea (or something similar) floating about on the internet for a year or two  now, so I'm not sure who started it, but I thought it was a really good idea! I've been wanting to do it for ages, and I've really struggled to think of something for each letter! But here is what I managed to do:

Asthmatic - My lung capacity sucks...
Blogger - I've been doing this since October 2013
Cornwall - A family holiday destination
Deli counter - The department I've use to work on
England - My country where I live!
Ford KA - My car
Goonies - My fave 80's film
Hair - I'm quite good at braids and I'm currently learning more styles
Internet - The place I can be found 99% of the time!
Jeggings - I've literally worn a version of these everyday for 10+ years!
Kent - My county in England!
Lists - I'm a bit of a 'make a list' addict
Morrisons - Where I used to work!
Nuts - I have a seriously bad allergy to these!
Orlando - The place I'd like to visit next year for a holiday!
Piercings - I've only had my ears done and that's all I'm brave enough to do!
Queen - A band I love to listen to when I'm driving
Right-handed - I can do almost nothing with my left hand!
Shoes - I have over 30 pairs after my last count...
Tills - I was a checkout operator for 5 years!
Umbridge - The character I hate so much in the Potter Franchise!!!!
Virtual Assistant - What I now work as
We The Kings - A band I LOVE, and I own all their albums!
X - The only letter that really stumped me!
Yellow - A colour I don't ever wear
Zips - The one thing on my coats that break CONSTANTLY!

This was so tricky! What would all of your letters be, and have you done a post like this before? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

Money-Saving Hacks: My Tried-and-Tested Tips

Saving money can feel like an impossible task sometimes, but over the years I’ve found some strategies that really work! Whether it’s stashing away pennies or taking on savings challenges, here’s what’s worked for me so far.

Savings Accounts

Every month, I set aside £150–£200 into a holiday savings account and another £30–£50 into a separate emergency fund. Having two accounts really helps me keep things organised. One is for general savings – stuff like unexpected car repairs or replacing broken gadgets – and the other is for something much more fun: holidays! Having a dedicated holiday fund makes it feel so much more achievable.

Loyalty Cards

I’m a sucker for loyalty cards, and honestly, they’ve saved me loads over the years. From Morrison’s cards that give you £5 vouchers for every 5,000 points to Superdrug and Boots cards that let you save up for big purchases, I’m all over it. Right now, I’ve got about £8 stacked up on my Superdrug card, and I’m totally saving that for summer holiday bits.

Piggy Banks

Yes, I still use piggy banks. I’ve got one that collects 1p and 2p coins – which I bag up and deposit once it’s full – and another for £2 coins that’s dedicated to my Florida holiday fund. The last time I opened it, I had £120 saved up, mostly in coins! Those little amounts seriously add up over time.

The 52-Week Savings Challenge

This one’s a classic! The idea is to save the amount of money that matches the week of the year. Week 1 = £1, Week 2 = £2, and so on. I like to do mine backwards, starting with the bigger amounts at the beginning of the year. Right now, I’ve got £626 saved up – not bad, right?

No-Spend Rules

No-spend challenges are another favourite of mine. I tried doing a whole month but kept failing, so I came up with my own rules. I’ve cancelled subscriptions I don’t enjoy anymore, trimmed down unnecessary direct debits, and even banned myself from buying beauty products unless they’re essentials. Cutting out things like magazines, meal deals, and random lottery tickets has seriously made a difference.

How do you save up money and stick to it? And did you find any of the ideas above helpful? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

How To Make Driving Fun Once Again*

There is so much to enjoy about driving - the feeling of freedom and independence, being able to travel where you want, whenever you want, having your choice of music playing, and the sensation of the wind rushing in through the sunroof open windows.

Except, it's not always like that, far from it. Even if you like driving, it isn't always a journey of enjoyment. It may be dull and repetitive, and all of the joy can be drained out when you commute to and from work every day. However, as long as you remember that it can be a fun and delightful activity, you can make it fun and enjoyable again - you only need to mix up a couple of your driving habits and be a little creative. Here are some tried and true strategies for making your driving experience a little bit more exciting when it seems dull.

image

Take A Road Trip

Most of the excursions we take in our car are completely practical and required - the commute to work, the school run, dropping the kids off at play dates and sports groups, doing the supermarket shopping. If you are only utilising your automobile for these things, it pulls the car away from being something laced with joy and excitement to just another functional and useful addition to our lives. Sometimes, taking a journey centred totally on happy times is pleasant. Nothing will help you fall in love with your vehicle more than an excellent road trip. Plan a gorgeous route, pack up the car, and set out for a few days of pure pleasure driving.

Change the car

We may blame the commute and the other cars on the road. We might blame the routine tasks we do in our car, but occasionally, it can be the car itself. If we are driving around in a car that we don't adore. There is little wonder that we are not enjoying the experience. The most apparent approach is to hunt for a new automobile that is not only functional but entertaining to drive from Edmunds. If you are not in the position to buy a new car, treat your old one to a complete valet, and some new accessories such as chrome alloys, new car mats, and, if you haven't already had one, a great sound system. You'll find driving to be considerably more pleasurable if you appreciate the car that you're driving about in.

Switch up the commute

One of the biggest things we complain about is getting trapped in traffic. Even the greatest automobile in the world won't be much fun if you are sitting in bumper to bumper traffic, day in, day out. If the commute is making you down, look at shaking things up, and take a new route. Even if it takes a bit longer, it will be worth it if you are no longer dreading the ride.

What are your top tips for making driving a fun and exciting experience once again?

Why You Should Consider Using A YouTube Converter For Everyday Enjoyment*

Why should people convert YouTube videos to mp3s? Audio music is preferred by many people around the world over video music for a variety of reasons. With Mp3 files on their computers, smartphones and other devices, they're able to enjoy their favourite music. We all know there's no legit app for high-quality Mp3 streaming. Because of the increased demand for high-quality mp3 files, more and more people are turning to YouTube to mp3 converters in order to make their preferred video songs available in mp3 format. In this article, we will go over some of the primary motivations that drive audio enthusiasts to use these converters. Continue reading to see the list.

https://unsplash.com/photos/VLzAkbs5afg

Enables audio extraction

Sometimes you can only hear certain soundtracks in movies or music videos, but you won't be able to download them anywhere else. You may want to buy soundtracks or music to listen to later. You can easily take this sound from YouTube and store it on your devices, where you can play it whenever you want. You can also use the recording in other ways, such as creating your own video or doing a rendition of a song, for example. You have a lot of options. With the help of a YouTube to MP3 converter, you can download songs that aren't available anywhere else.

It speeds up the loading process.

YouTube videos require a substantial amount of storage space to load. This enormous space requirement not only slows down the loading speed but also increases the amount of time you have to wait before your music or other files can be played. As a general rule, the bandwidth of a video file is twice or three times that of an mp3. The file bandwidth is decreased when a YouTube video is converted into an MP3, which in turn makes loading the file much simpler and quicker. You'll be able to listen to your files more easily and more consecutively thanks to the faster loading. In addition, the vast majority of players, including those found in car stereos, are unable to play video files. If you convert your favourite songs from YouTube to mp3, you will be able to listen to them no matter where you are or when you want to, regardless of whether or not you have an internet connection. You don't have to wait for a song to load before you can skip, rewind, or fast-forward.

It enhances the portability of your files.

Why is it that an MP3 file can be transferred more easily than a YouTube video file? When you download a video file, you will need a significant amount of storage space in order to keep the videos you have downloaded and to transfer them from one player to another. Because of this circumstance, it is likely that you will be required to acquire a larger internal hard disc rather than a flash disc to store your data on. Despite this, watching video files while listening to them requires a large player that has a screen so that the viewer can see what they are listening to. When it comes to mp3 files, things are a little different. After converting the files, you will be able to store them in more compact storage devices and listen to them on portable devices, such as mobile radios and car stereos. It's common for people to save mp3s of videos on their smartphones. They can then use the audios while they're exercising, walking, running, or doing other things they do on a daily basis. Music videos aren't good for exercise.

5 Things I Love About Spring

Spring officially rolled around on March 20th, and I'm already feeling the positivity from the change of seasons. This season is my main favourites and I wanted to share what I love about Spring time.
  1. Warmer weather!
    • I cannot put into words how happy I am to not have to be de-icing my car every morning!
  2. Days out with the family
    • We have some little trips planned, a week away, and hopefully some trips to Chessington coming up over the next few months.
  3. My mood is so much better in Spring
    • I have a mild form of S.A.D, so the winter time is absolute hell for my mental health. The warmer weather and more daylight hours are already making my meatal health better.
  4. Cleaning out the house and having that 'decluttered' feel
    • I love having a declutter at this time of year! I can throw out old and useless things, and maybe sell some bits that are still in good condition. I like to go into summer time with the house feeling lighter.
  5. Local markets and events are open again
    • We have some small markets opening up gradually around my local area, and that means summer fairs, markets and events are coming back!

What are you favourite things about spring time? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

Budgeting Tips!

There are many ways to save yourself money. Some are easier than others, and can be done easily and somewhat quickly, and others take a bit more preparing and can take longer. You can get savings accounts to help manage your goals, use piggy banks to save spare pennies, and even save up points on loyalty cards for later use.

I am in no way shape or form a budget guru, or a money expert. I've just tweaked a few things in regards to my money in the past two years that have helped me out. Granted, I'm still not 100% on not taking money out of my savings here and there, BUT I have taken out a lot less since January 2020 due to budgeting.

Here's just some ways I save myself money, and budget my month to try and keep my spending under control.

Cash Envelopes

My favourite by far is the cash envelopes system. You can get fancy envelopes off Amazon like mine, or just use plain mailing envelopes. Assign a category for each envelope and then put your designated amount in each one. That is there your budget for that category each month. Some categories that I have are:
  • Food shopping
  • Fuel
  • Toiletries
  • Dinner out
Take your pay, set aside any savings, rent and bills, and then whatever is left, assign to each category. Sometimes you won't need that category that month, so you may not need to put your money towards it. Others you know you will use weekly, such as food shopping. I get paid monthly, so I need to make sure that whatever is in mine can last me four weeks.

Sinking Funds

Similar to cash envelopes, sinking funds are alike but are for set dates and targets. You know when Christmas is each year, so if you want to save £500 by December and it's currently January, you would divide the £500 by how many paydays you get between then and whatever date you want it ready for in December. I get paid monthly, so I know I get 12 paydays between January and December, so I would want to put £42 aside monthly to achieve this goal. Some category ideas are:
  • Car maintenance
  • Medical
  • Christmas
  • Holiday
  • Disney+ annual
Again, you can tweak this. You might have an extra £20 spare one month and want to put it towards one sinking fund in particular, or maybe you're short one month and can't do that £42. Just adjust where you can, and if a category isn't working for you - stop it and distribute that money to the other categories!

Savings Jars

I have a couple of different coin jars for loose change that I bag up at the end of the year and deposit into my bank account. I save all my 1p and 2p coins in one, and will bag these up through the year and save aside until I need to put them in the bank, as this one fills up the quickest. I also have one for £2 coins. This is a rare coin to come across often, so the jar I have for this will only be emptied every couple of years, just so I can save a better amount! The last one is a 5p, 10p, 20p and 50p jar. All the silver! I don't always fill this one as sometimes I know I'll need change for something, but I will add in now and then. Anytime I have more than about 3 or 4 of each denomination, then that goes in the jar regardless.

£5 Note Challenge

Similar the the savings jar, this is one I came across online back in late 2019 and I thought it was great. Granted, back then I was using cash a lot more than current times, so this was easier, but I've still tried it this year. Every time you come across a £5, it goes straight into a spare envelope and I'll set that aside for the year. Now and again, I will take one out for a charity donation, but otherwise I tend to leave it alone. This year I've managed £80, and only £10 of that has come back out. Not bad, considering I've mainly done card transactions all year!

Track EVERY Transaction

Possibly annoying and time consuming for some, but I find this extremely helpful and motivating. You really get a good idea (and sometimes a scary shock!) when you see all of your purchases laid out before you. Something as small as a 99p game for you phone, to a £200 gadget needs to be logged. At the end of each month, go back and highlight any transaction that you really didn't need, or was an impulse buy that you now regret. Try and keep an eye on the highlighted ones, and try not to buy those things again, or at least frequently.

Have Different Savings Accounts

I have a savings account for my general savings, emergency fund, and retirement. My general is a slow builder, but is there if I accidentally go over in a cash envelope category, or maybe I finally decide to get a new laptop after all and didn't want to save slowly for it. I do try and leave this alone where I can, but I do dip into it now and then.
An emergency fund is usually around £1000 for most people - and it's the same for me. This amount cannot be touched, for anything other than an emergency. Maybe my car completely breaks down and I need a replacement to last me until I can save for a better one. Or my phone falls into water and I need a new one ASAP for work, then that is a reason to break into the emergency fund. It's also really good to have this for peace of mind! Retirement is something I only recently added as a category for my savings. This, again, cannot be touched until I retire in another 40+ years time!
Having these savings in separate accounts means you can see the totals a lot better and keep an eye on the amount rising!

I hope some of this was helpful to you, and if you have any questions about anything, please do ask! What budgeting tips would you give to people looking for help? Let me know! Hope you have a great day and keep safe :)

How To Take Your Driving Experience To The Next Level*

As the new year fast gains momentum, you may want to make resolutions that will allow you to improve your life in many ways. Enhancing your experience behind the wheel is a good thing, especially if you are an avid road traveller. By mastering the following tips and tricks on car ownership and driving, you could be well on your way to living a much happier and safer life in 2021.

  1. Improve your car's performance

Making modifications to your existing vehicle is one way to improve its performance and boost your driving comfort. For example, consider fitting performance wheels and tires on your car. These can give you a firm grip and traction on the road as you cruise around. Those who regularly drive through snowy and wet conditions may also want to look at the best winter tires. While many car conscious drivers can't do without alloy wheels, carbon fibre wheels are becoming popular as well. These are durable, light and offer a smoother ride. Also, if you think your old car cannot cater to your needs in the new year, be ready to invest in high-performance vehicles such as BMW models, at a local BMW Garage - if you’re truly after a supercar.

  1. Steer clear of your motoring back pain

Your driving experience in the new year will no longer be fun if you suffer from back pain. According to the British Chiropractic Association, more than 40% of all drivers experience motoring back pain. Two main factors account for the rising cases of drivers suffering back pain at the wheel — bad posture and extended periods of driving. Besides stress, chronic back pain is another health problem that frequently forces drivers to take time off the wheel. Therefore, maintain the right driving posture and steer clear of back pain.

  1. Switch up your car's transmission

Another extraordinary way to improve your driving experience is to shake things up in your vehicle. Tweak your car's main mechanical systems starting with the engine and transmission systems. Switching from manual to automatic transmission or vice versa, depending on your driving strengths and needs, can improve your driving experience. When you opt for an automatic transmission, that could allow you to enjoy your car's features to the fullest. Car owners on manual transmission can consider adding "short throw shifter options". The bottom line is that tweaking your car's mechanics and installing extra features can improve your car's handling and driving comfort.

  1. Reduce your stress

There is no doubt that stress is an enemy to a fulfilling ride. And sadly, an astronomical number of drivers fall victims to road rage once a while. According to Brake, a road-safety organisation, almost three-quarters of drivers lose their focus when engaging in road rage with other road users. If you are stuck in heavy traffic, it pays to keep your cool. Engage all your senses and avoid reckless driving habits such as speeding and texting while driving.

These are just a few secrets of boosting your driving skills in the new year.
